BETTER HAIR DAYS ARE HERE
We all have a love-hate relationship with our hair, don't we? Are you considering getting hair extensions, but not sure if it's worth taking the plunge? We're here to help you make that decision.
Now, we totally understand the frustration of having hair that just won’t seem to grow past a certain length, no matter how patient and kind you are to it. If this sounds like anything you're going through right now, then hair extensions may be the perfect solution for you! Hair Extensions can be a great confidence booster too, especially if you have suffered with hair loss or fall out - its an instant mood uplifter that's for sure, so why not give yourself a treat!
Before getting into the different types of hair extensions, the first thing you need to know is that they come in real human hair extensions or synthetic hair extensions. So what is the difference?
Human hair extensions are exactly what they sound like, they are made out of real human hair from top to bottom, which have been donated.
Synthetic hair, on the other hand is made out of various synthetic, blended fibres, and contains no human hair. These fibres are usually very fine, plastic fibres that are manufactured to imitate real human hair.
There are lots of different options when it comes to the type hair extensions you can have too; there's clip-ins, tape-ins, weaves, pre-bonded, fusion, micro-link... with so many different types of extensions, we know it can get a little overwhelming if you are new to the world of hair extensions, so here's a little bit about each type...
Often the best option is to speak to your hairdresser to see which type will suit you and your hair, as all hair types are different!
Not ready for long term hair extensions? Clip-In Extensions are a great temporary quick fix and they can be easily applied and removed within minutes. Clip-in's will not hinder hair growth either so it’s the best alternative to rocking longer locks, while waiting for your real hair to grow out.
Tape-ins are exactly what they sound like. The extensions are pre-taped and then glued together on either side of your own hair. Tape ins can last between 4-8 weeks depending on how well you look after them and they are amazing if you're just starting out with hair extensions because its a quick process for them to be put in and taken out.
Weave hair is applied by braiding the natural hair into cornrows first, then using a needle and thread to sew the weave into the braid or cornrow. Weave hair extensions are predominantly used for people with thicker hair because of the way they are applied.
Pre Bonded (also know as Fusion) are fused to natural hair using different adhesives such as glue. Applying pre-bonded hair extensions take approximately 3-4 hours to apply. Fusion/pre-ponded application is managed and treated the same way as your real hair. You can use the same products you would normally use, however, the extensions need re-positioning every 2–3 months as the natural hair grows out.
Microlink hair extensions are also known as micro bead hair extensions or micro loop hair extensions. These are applied by attaching tiny wefts of hair to small sections of the natural hair with a small silicone-lined bead. Then, a special tool is used to secure the bead to the hair and tightened to hold it in place, this method does not involve using glue compared to bonds.
